QUALIFICATIONS
-
B.S. degree or better in Microbiology.
-
5 years minimum experienced as Microbiologist.
-
Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation, with a minimum of one (2) year experience.

Modern and complex principles and practices of qualitative and quantitative analysis, cellular growth, selective medias, plate reading, result interpretation, and biochemical confirmation tests of suspect isolates.

Modern laboratory procedures, methods and equipment including computers and related software.

Various sample preparation techniques.

Statistical analysis of data related to a quality assurance program.

Accreditation program requirements for laboratory certification.

Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
-
Pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations.

5+ years of experience with Microbiological test methods.

Experience working in a cGMP environment preferred.

Technical writing skills

Familiar with Microsoft applications such as MS Office.

JOB SUMMARY
Under direction, supervises, assigns, reviews and participates in the work of staff responsible for providing laboratory services in support of operations; ensures work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures; provide training on proper laboratory test procedures; and performs the more technical and complex tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility. Perform Microbiological analyses utilizing approved methods for sample preparation and analysis of solid and liquid matrixes by traditional and rapid based microbiolocical test platforms.
- Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, review, and participate in the work of staff responsible for work performed in the Microbiology Lab.
- Establish schedules and methods for providing laboratory analysis and quality assurance program services; identify resource needs; review needs with appropriate management staff; allocate resources accordingly.
- Participate in the development of policies and procedures; monitor work activities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures; make recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards and procedures.
- Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; implement approved policies and procedures.
- Participate in the selection of laboratory staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures. Ensure accuracy and completion of the Microbiology Lab personnel training plans.
- Prepare analytical and statistical reports on operations and activities.
- Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of microbiology analysis.
- Utilizing proper technique and approved methods analyze for pathogenic and non-pathogenic organisms, cell activity content of raw materials and finished products. Assist in the analysis of samples for both raw materials and finished products; utilize instrument specific computer applications for Microbiological analysis.
- Responsible for assuring that equipment within the Microbiological Lab is within calibration, and escalating to Quality Technical Manager, if equipment is outside of calibration or unable to be calibrated.
- Ensures the quality of testing in area of responsibility. Investigates testing quality issues and implements countermeasures to prevent reoccurrence. Documents abnormal conditions or quality issues and provides feedback to appropriate personnel.
- Ensure adherence to the Laboratory Control and Chemical Hygiene Plan.
- Perform reviews to ensure compliance to specifications and standards.
- Serve as a technical resource for the organization regarding microbiological analysis.
- To have an understanding and ability to run additional analyses as needed.
- Support in the investigations stemming from non-conformances, out of specifications, complaints, deviations and or audit findings.
- Perform Installation and Performance Qualifications on all instrumentation when necessary
- Ensure methods are suitable and properly validated, verified or qualified
- Order and inventory lab materials to maintain supplies
- Other duties as assigned
- Must be able to successfully pass all job-related tests and certifications required for working in a cGMP, quality environment including but not limited to: inspections and GMP requirements to perform essential functions of the job. Must re-qualify every year on all job-related tests and certifications as job or qualifications require
